2024 AMM Infrastructure Winners
The Western Communities Foundation is excited to announce our five 2024 AMM Infrastructure Grant winners.
Each year we open the polls to municipalities in Manitoba to submit their community’s project for the chance to win one of five $5,000 grants. This year, we're investing in community projects, from revitalizing playgrounds to enhancing library sustainability and supporting a fire department’s operations.
Grant Recipient 1: Village de St-Pierre-Jolys
With an innovative approach, the Village de St-Pierre-Jolys is tackling flooding issues by constructing a rain garden near Parc Carillon. This project not only addresses flood prevention but also transforms the area into a beautiful garden for residents to enjoy. Such a creative solution exemplifies how infrastructure improvements can enhance both functionality and aesthetics.
Grant Recipient 2: Municipality of Oakland-Wawanesa
In Oakland-Wawanesa, the aging playground at Riverbend Park will receive a much-needed upgrade. The grant will fund new inclusive equipment, ensuring children of all abilities can play safely and create lasting memories with friends. By focusing on inclusivity, this project underscores the importance of accessible community spaces for everyone.
Grant Recipient 3: Town of Carberry
The Carberry Fire Department is set to enhance its operations by purchasing and installing a compressor for filling breathing apparatuses. Currently reliant on neighboring communities for this critical service, having an in-house compressor will increase safety, reduce unnecessary travel, and improve training capabilities. This development highlights the significance of equipping local services with the tools they need to serve efficiently.
Grant Recipient 4: Grandview Municipality
Situated in the heart of downtown, the Grandview District Library is an essential resource for citizens of all ages. However, the building requires new eco-friendly windows and doors to conserve energy and ensure comfort during the harsh winter months. This upgrade is crucial for maintaining the library's status as a warm, welcoming space for community gatherings and learning.
Grant Recipient 5: Rural Municipality of Grahamdale
The Rural Municipality of Grahamdale is working on a project that involves designing and constructing of 4.5 mile of ditch to help divert surface water away from about 120 cottages that are at risk. This grant will help advance the project to continue serving the community and protecting their properties.
The AMM Infrastructure Grants are more than just financial support—they are an investment in the future of our communities. By addressing local needs and fostering development, these grants empower municipalities to create meaningful change. We congratulate this year’s recipients and look forward to seeing the positive impact their projects will bring to their communities. Keep building, keep growing, and together, let's make our communities stronger.
