Celebrating 30 Years in Insurance: A Q&A with Tara Anderson, Branch Manager

This year, Tara Anderson marked an incredible milestone, 30 years in the insurance industry, recently recognized by the Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan (IBAS). Over three decades, Tara has witnessed firsthand how the industry has evolved, adapted, and continued to offer meaningful, longterm career opportunities.

We sat down with Tara to reflect on this remarkable achievement, discuss how her career in insurance began, and explore what has kept her motivated and engaged throughout the years. In the Q&A below, she shares insights on why insurance remains a dynamic and rewarding career choice, and why Western Financial Group has been a place she’s proud to call home for more than 20 years of her journey.

When you look back on your 30 years in this industry, what does that milestone mean to you personally?

Tara: Reaching 30 years means a lot to me. I’m proud that I’ve persevered through many changes over the years — some positive, some more challenging — and continued to grow and adapt alongside an evolving industry. The insurance landscape has changed significantly during that time, and each chapter of my career has helped shape who I am today. That perseverance has allowed me to keep learning, take on new opportunities, and continue finding purpose in the work I do every day at Western.

Did you always see insurance as your career path, or did it find you unexpectedly?

Tara: Insurance definitely found me unexpectedly. At the time, I was really just looking for something in my hometown and decided to give insurance a try. I had no idea it would turn into a longterm career, but that initial opportunity opened the door to an industry full of variety, stability, and personal growth.

What was your very first role in the industry, and what do you remember most about those early days?

Tara: I was initially hired to handle Sask Auto transactions, with the expectation that I would work toward getting my license shortly after. Those early days were incredibly paperheavy — something I definitely don’t miss! While that handson foundation taught me a lot about the business, I’m very grateful for how far we’ve come. Today, Western uses modern, innovative tools that streamline processes, reduce unnecessary manual work, and allow us to focus more on problemsolving and supporting customers, rather than paperwork.

What has surprised you most about the insurance industry after three decades?

Tara: What surprises me most is that I’m still learning every single day. After 30 years, you might think you’ve heard it all, but there are always new situations, new risks, and new changes to navigate. That ongoing learning is what keeps the work interesting and engaging.

In your experience, what makes insurance a great career option?

Insurance is such a dynamic industry. There’s truly never a dull moment, and there are so many different paths you can take, whether you’re starting out or making a career change. It offers stability, growth, and the chance to make a real difference for people when they need it most.

What does being part of Western Financial Group mean to you at this stage of your career?

Tara: As I start planning for the future and thinking about succession, it means a great deal to have Western’s support. Knowing the organization is invested in making those transitions thoughtful and seamless gives me confidence, both for myself and for those who will continue the work after me.
