WCF Boosts Community Resilience With $170,000 in Infrastructure Grants

As Canada’s best insurance broker, Western Financial Group is deeply committed to building safer, stronger, and more connected communities across the country. Through the Western Financial Group Communities Foundation (WCF), that commitment comes to life each year in the form of meaningful investments that support local infrastructure, public spaces, and essential community programming.

For 2025, WCF is proud to award 34 Community Infrastructure Grants, contributing $170,000 in funding to projects that enhance sustainability, safety, accessibility, climate resilience, and social wellbeing across Canada. Each grant delivers $5,000 to organizations working hard to make their communities stronger and more inclusive. Click here to view our 2025 Grant Recipients.

“At Western Financial Group, we believe in building safer, stronger communities, and this philosophy is baked into every aspect of our business,” said Grant Ostir, Western Financial Group CEO and Communities Foundation President. “Strong communities build strong futures. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, your work inspires us every day.”

For more than two decades, the program has funded projects that create safer spaces and foster deeper community connections. Eligible initiatives span sustainability, accessibility, health and safety, climate adaptation, and social connection, all critical elements in shaping vibrant, resilient communities. Since 2004, WCF has awarded more than $2.4 million, supporting over 490 projects nationwide.

This year’s grant recipients represent a diverse cross‑section of community needs and geographic regions. Projects include a greenhouse expansion for The Bethany Care Foundation in Calgary, a live‑fire training site to support emergency preparedness in Princeton, a food diversion initiative in Toronto, and accessible recreation upgrades in MacDowall.

Additionally, national partners Wawanesa Insurance and SGI Canada have co‑sponsored a range of impactful initiatives, from playground resurfacing to safety upgrades, further amplifying the program’s reach.

“The Community Infrastructure Grant program is about giving back and creating lasting impact in the communities we serve,” said Michelle Mak, Western Communities Foundation Director. “We are thrilled to support these 34 projects and look forward to seeing the positive changes they bring.”

These investments reflect Western Financial Group’s mission: supporting the people and places that form the heart of our communities. Learn more about how the Western Communities Foundation (and Canada’s best insurance broker) is helping build stronger futures at westerngives.ca.
