Western Direct Insurance Raises a Record $30,000 to Fight Women's Cancers
Calgary, AB, November 24, 2014 – In the third annual Quote 4 Cures campaign, Western Direct Insurance raised $30,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society to fight women’s cancers. This money will help fund research that will benefit the lives of the more than 93,600 women who will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
During the month of October, Western Direct Insurance donated $10 for every car or home insurance quote completed online or at one of the 45 Western Financial Group branches in Alberta.
“It is crucial to raise money and awareness for women’s cancers as they affect the lives of nearly 100,000 women each year,” says Jeff Burke, President and CEO of Western Financial Group which offers the Western Direct Insurance product. “Once again, Albertans helped us fight back against these diseases by completing quotes during the month of October and we are very excited to see a record amount raised for the Canadian Cancer Society and the fight for life.”
The campaign coincides with Women’s Cancer Health Awareness Month when the Canadian Cancer Society raises money and awareness for breast, cervical, melanoma and colorectal cancers. These cancers account for more than 40 per cent of new cancer cases in women.
“We are extremely grateful to Western Direct Insurance for their ongoing support in the fight for life – as well as to all Albertans who participated in Quote 4 Cures,” says Dan Holinda, Executive Director of the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division. “Quote 4 Cures is an investment in change. Together we will change women’s cancer from something our mothers, daughters, nieces and loved ones fear to something women live well beyond or never get in the first place.”
Money raised through Quote 4 Cures supports Society-funded research into women’s cancers. The campaign also served as an important reminder for women to speak with their doctors about screening and early detection – two of the most important tools in the fight against cancer. In most cases, catching cancer in its early stages is the key to successfully beating it. In addition to the Quote 4 Cures campaign, Western Direct Insurance, in partnership with the Calgary Stampeders Football Club and the Canadian Cancer Society, supports the Pink Power game held each October, which raises money and awareness for breast cancer.
Western Direct Insurance has raised $82,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society through Quote 4 Cures since launching the campaign in 2012.
