Empowering Indigenous Communities, Honouring Truth and Reconciliation

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR), Western Financial Group Communities Foundation is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of its Indigenous Infrastructure Grant Program. This initiative reflects Western’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation through meaningful investments in Indigenous communities.
Launched in 2021, the program provides $5,000 grants to Indigenous municipalities and CRA-registered charities to support infrastructure projects that promote sustainability, accessibility, health, and community connection. Since inception, over $170,000 has been dedicated to Indigenous-specific initiatives, contributing to long-term resilience and cultural continuity.
This year’s recipients include:
- Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation – Emergency generator replacement for disaster preparedness
- Tla’amin Nation – Cemetery improvements to honour sacred sites
- Gitanmaax Band – Inclusive playground for youth wellness
- Island Métis Family & Community Services – Playground renewal for cultural identity
- Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre – Sacred Spaces renovation for healing
- Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society – Centre upgrades for safety and accessibility
Western is also observing NDTR with a paid day off, educational resources, and staff engagement opportunities. These efforts reflect our belief that reconciliation is a shared responsibility—one rooted in awareness, respect, and action.
