How to Have Fun with the Kids this Winter

There are plenty of places to take your kids this winter, from festivals to theaters but if you are planning for some fun winter activities for kids, here are both indoors and outdoors options:

Indoors:

Create a winter-themed craft station: Make snowflakes, paper snowmen, or other winter-themed crafts using paper, glue, glitter, and other art supplies.

Bake and decorate cookies: Have a baking session and let kids decorate cookies with winter-themed designs using icing, sprinkles, and edible decorations.

Build a blanket fort: Use blankets, pillows, and cushions to create a cozy fort where kids can read books, play games, or watch movies.

Host a winter-themed scavenger hunt: Hide winter-related items around the house and create a scavenger hunt for kids to find them.

Have an indoor snowball fight: Use soft, plush snowballs or balled-up socks for a safe and fun indoor snowball fight.

Outdoors:

Build a snowman: Classic winter fun! Use snow to build snowmen and decorate them with scarves, hats, and buttons.

Go sledding: Find a nearby hill and enjoy sledding with kids. Make sure it's a safe area without obstacles.

Create snow art: Use spray bottles filled with water and food coloring to create colorful designs or drawings on the snow.

Ice skating: Visit a local ice rink for a fun day of ice skating.

Some areas may also have outdoor skating ponds. For ice to be considered safe to go out on, it should be of a particular thickness — at least 15 centimetres thick for a person to walk or skate on it, or 20 cm thick for a group of people, and at least 25 cm thick for snowmobiling.

The colour of ice may be an indication of its strength − clear blue to black ice is strongest, and likely the deepest.

Nature Scavenger Hunt: Explore the winter landscape by going on a nature scavenger hunt to find items like pinecones, animal tracks, or icicles.

Remember to dress warmly and ensure safety when participating in outdoor winter activities.
