Be Part of a Milestone Movement

May 19-24, 2025

Join thousands of Canadians this spring to celebrate 20 years of the Western Communities Foundation Annual National Walk! This landmark anniversary represents more than just steps taken—it’s a testament to the extraordinary power of communities coming together from coast to coast.

Since 2005, what began as a modest initiative with 246 participants has flourished into a nationwide movement engaging over 2,000 participants annually across over 150 communities. Our collective journey has granted more than $1 million for vital community projects, helping to transform the landscape of Canadian neighborhoods.

Our Impact

Our Communities Foundation is proud to have Western team members at the front line of our community givebacks. Western team members submit all applications in support of the community projects they care about. If you are an organization or charity looking for support, contact your local Western Financial Group or affiliate brokerage to learn more about our Communities Foundation programs.

Building Safe Places: Walk for a Better, Brighter Future

This year, we are excited to introduce The National Walk for Safe Places as our new theme. This marks the beginning of the next chapter in our journey to transform communities into safe, inclusive and resilient places to live—ready for the future.

Why Walk for Safe Places

Our communities face many unexpected challenges that show how important it is to build safe, equitable, climate-resilient communities where everyone can thrive.

When you participate in the National Walk for Safe Places, you are joining the national movement to show up for causes that support:

  • safe, diverse and inclusive neighbourhoods that uplift individuals, families, and businesses
  • community wellbeing and social connections
  • climate resilient communities and environmental preservation

Every step taken during our National Walk supports our movement to build strong, inclusive and resilient communities across Canada for generations to come.

Snap a Photo and Help Us Give $10,000 to local charities

Let’s transform our steps into a social movement! This May, take a walk in your neighbourhood and snap a photo of your walking shoes or your neighbourhood for a chance to win a $1,000 donation to your favourite local charity. Together, we can raise awareness about the importance of creating safe places where we live, play, and work.

How to participate

  1. Take a walk, stroll, or bike ride in your neighborhood between May 1 and May 24
  2. Post a photo of your walking shoes or your neighbourhood on Facebook or Instagram using hashtag #StepUpAndShare. Remember to tag the local charity you’re walking for and how they’re creating safe places in your community!
  3. Share your post to inspire others and keep the momentum going.

Challenge ends midnight May 24th, 2025. Terms apply, see details. Eligible entries will be entered to win one of ten $1000 donations to a local charity in a Western community. Winners will be announced on May 27 on Western’s social media channels.
