As a provincial Crown corporation, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) started in 1973 and provides universal, compulsory auto insurance to drivers in BC through the broker system. ICBC offers licensing, vehicle registration and safety programs to BC residents.

The ICBC Basic Autoplan insurance is mandatory for all vehicles in British Columbia. This ensures a basic amount of coverage for all motorists on the province’s roads. ICBC operates on values, integrity, dedication to customers—a key pillar of the company’s mission statement—accountability and caring.

As part of the ICBC Community Grants Program, community organizations, those supporting road safety and injury recovery projects, can receive financial assistance. ICBC also assists the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (PARTY) program in British Columbia communities, as well as the driver training bursary program Take the Wheel.
