As a provincial Crown corporation, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) started in 1973 and provides universal, compulsory auto insurance to drivers in BC through the broker system. ICBC offers licensing, vehicle registration and safety programs to BC residents.
The ICBC Basic Autoplan insurance is mandatory for all vehicles in British Columbia. This ensures a basic amount of coverage for all motorists on the province’s roads.
