Western Financial Group (formerly Wyatt-Dowling) is located on 1027 St James St, Winnipeg. I had a great experience at this location with Eric – I needed to buy travel vehicle insurance and he was very knowledgable and helpful. I also came here when I purchased a vehicle and also had a pleasant experience. Great staff and great experience overall. I highly recommend. They are open Monday to Saturday and free parking is available.

The lady we dealt with was really great, while she's still learning her craft ..her attitude and ability to research and answer questions is top shelf.

When you buy car insurance, you must have a valid vehicle registration and get mandatory basic Autopac insurance from the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation.
Autopac insurance includes personal injury insurance, all-perils insurance, and third-party liability insurance.
The average cost of car insurance in Manitoba right now is between $1,000 and $1,350 per year, depending on your vehicle type, optional coverage, and driving history. The recent rate increase by Manitoba Public Insurance adds about $51 to annual premiums, meaning most drivers are seeing average annual costs between $1,140 and $1,350 for typical coverage. That's about $100 a month.
Basic third-party liability coverage insures you up to $500,000 for claims that are made against you. You can get Autopac coverage to increase your third-party liability protection to $1 million, $2 million, $5 million, $7 million or $10 million.
You can also get higher liability limits through Special Risk Extension coverage.
To lower your auto insurance premiums, you’ll want to maintain a clean driving record, try bundling your car insurance with your home insurance policy, increase your deductible, and install approved anti-theft devices. Some insurers also offer discounts for completing defensive driving courses.
In Manitoba, car insurance is provided through the Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) Autopac program, which is mandatory for every registered vehicle. Basic Autoplan (the minimum coverage) includes $500,000 in third party liability coverage, which can optionally be increased. The standard deductible for MPI Basic Autopan is $750 - this is the amount you have to pay out-of-pocket before MPI covers the rest of any damages.
No, you absolutely need insurance to drive a car in Winnipeg, or anywhere in Manitoba. The minimum fine for a first offense of driving without car insurance in Manitoba is a hefty $5,000, which can go up to $25,000. You might also be charged with extra court costs and surchrages, along with potential license suspension and vehicle impoundment. Make sure your insurance is up to date!
In Manitoba, if you are found 100% not at fault for the accident, you typically don't have to pay the deductible, or it'll be refunded. Sometimes you may need to pay a deductible to quickly get your vehicle repaired while it's still unclear who was at fault in the accident. If MPI determines that the other driver was at fault, they will waive or fully refund your deductible and cover the cost of your repairs.
Home insurance is not mandatory in Manitoba, but if you have a mortgage your lender will likely require you to have an insurance policy.
Home insurance helps you protect against:
Without home insurance, you’ll be responsible for paying out of pocket for damages to your home and detached structures like your shed or garage.
Home insurance also covers your personal belongings and helps protect you should someone get injured at your home.
You’ll be protected and have peace of mind with home insurance in Winnipeg.
Did you know that your home insurance policy does not cover damages or accidents that happen due to you running your business at your Winnipeg home?
