Western Communities Foundation Leadership Recognized on Insurance Business Canada's Hot List 2025
Western Financial Group is proud to share that Michelle Mak, Director of the Western Communities Foundation, has been named to Insurance Business Canada’s Hot List 2025, a national recognition highlighting 35 leaders who are influencing the future of the insurance sector. The Hot List showcases individuals who are navigating industry transformation, shifting customer expectations, and evolving market conditions.
Michelle acknowledged the recognition by emphasizing the collective commitment of Western’s employees including the more than 300 employee volunteers who strengthen the Foundation’s work and presence in communities across Canada. This aligns with the Foundation’s core purpose: supporting safer, more resilient, and more connected communities nationwide.
For over two decades, the Western Communities Foundation has played a central role in Western’s identity as a purpose-driven organization.
Through initiatives such as community infrastructure grants, crisis response support, local fundraising events, and programs that build social resilience, the Foundation has helped strengthen hundreds of communities. These initiatives complement the work Western does every day as one of the best insurance brokers in Canada, demonstrating that leadership in insurance includes both technical expertise and meaningful community investment.
The Foundation’s impact continues to expand through programs that provide critical support where it’s needed most - from funding accessible community spaces to supporting climate resilience projects to helping local organizations serve vulnerable populations. This year alone, the Foundation supported dozens of community-led initiatives across the country, reflecting Western’s long-standing belief that strong communities build strong futures.
Michelle’s recognition on the Hot List underscores the visibility and credibility the Foundation now carries within the broader insurance community, not simply because of one individual, but because of the collective effort of Western employees, volunteers, partners, and community leaders who bring its mission to life.
We congratulate Michelle on this honour and extend our appreciation to everyone who contributes to the Foundation’s growing national impact. Together, we remain committed to supporting communities across Canada and strengthening Western’s reputation as the best insurance broker in Canada for organizations and individuals seeking both protection and purpose.
