Western's Winnipeg Branches Support Valentines For Veterans
At Western Financial Group, giving back and building meaningful connections are core to who we are. This Valentine’s season, teams across the country found thoughtful ways to turn a celebration of love into opportunities for appreciation, generosity and community impact—through initiatives supported by Western Communities Foundation (WCF).
One of those initiatives was Valentines for Veterans, a national campaign that delivers messages of gratitude and encouragement to Canadian Veterans through partnerships with local elementary schools. Several Western Financial Group branches in Winnipeg and on South Vancouver Island proudly participated, working alongside students to create handmade valentines filled with heartfelt messages.
While the Valentines themselves are simple, the impact is significant.
For students, the initiative offers a meaningful way to learn about service, sacrifice and gratitude. For Veterans, it’s a reminder that their contributions are remembered and valued by communities of all ages. Guided by the community‑first spirit of Western Communities Foundation, our teams were honoured to help facilitate these connections and support an initiative rooted in kindness and respect.
This Valentine’s season also provided an opportunity to celebrate and support one another internally. In the Victoria Region, employees came together once again for the Candy Grams for WCF fundraiser, an initiative launched last year that continues to grow in both participation and impact. The fundraiser invites team members to purchase Candy Grams for colleagues across the region, sharing messages of appreciation while raising funds in support of the Foundation. Candy Grams were delivered to staff on Valentine’s Day, adding a fun and meaningful moment of connection in the workplace.
The Western Communities Foundation in Winnipeg
Thanks to strong engagement and collaboration across the region, the fundraiser more than doubled its results this year, raising $1,000, compared to $480 the previous year. Beyond supporting Western Communities Foundation, the initiative also encourages early and friendly fundraising across branches. The funds raised are awarded to the branch in the region with the highest total at the end of Q1, supporting their chosen branch charity and motivating teams to get involved early, with the added opportunity to earn a $1,000 bonus donation for their community partner.
Through Western Communities Foundation, Western Financial Group is proud to support initiatives that strengthen local connections, foster kindness and give back, whether that means honouring Veterans, engaging students, or creating moments of appreciation among colleagues.
