How to book a driver’s test
In Alberta, Class 4, 5, and 6 passenger vehicle road tests are booked through Alberta registry agents and given by private driver examiners. You can book a road test in person at an Alberta registry agent office. Several Western offices offer Alberta registry services.

Changes to road tests are coming in 2023
Some changes are coming to road tests in spring 2023 in Alberta. An advanced road test for Class 5 and Class 6 Graduated Driver’s Licenses (GDL) will no longer be required. To obtain a Class 4 driver’s license (required for transporting passengers), a road test will no longer be required.

How to register your vehicle
To drive on public roads in Alberta, your vehicle must have a Vehicle Registration Certificate and valid insurance. Motor vehicles like cars and trucks and non-motor vehicles like trailers need to be registered. Your vehicle can be registered for one to two years. To register your vehicle in Alberta, you must go to a registry agent with:
- Identification.
- Proof of ownership such as a bill of sale, lease, letters of administration, or probated will.
- Proof of valid insurance, including your name (the name of the person requesting registration)
- An out-of-province, commercial, or salvage inspection if needed. The first time you register a used vehicle in Alberta it may need to be inspected.
- A Vehicle Authorization form if you are completing the service on behalf of someone else.
