Happy to provide a five-star review to Sue Kaloty for the support and advice she has given to us over the years on both our house and automobiles. Her expertise on insurance matters has been consistently invaluable, and we are especially grateful for the support and guidance she provided to us during our recent claim. Thank you Sue!

I am not one for making a review for an employee at an insurance company as I usually feel like they are trying to take advantage of me. I have been looking into switching insurance companies and it's been a daunting experience for me as I have yet to have a good experience with an insurance company or employee. I was blessed to have my experience with Sarah Garvin, she was very polite, listened with intent of finding me something that fit my needs, explained everything to me and took the time to make sure that I had everything I needed to make an informed decision. I haven't had an experience like that with an insurance company before, until Sarah. 10/10 would recommend and I cannot say enough good things about her.

Sarah Garvin at the Lakeshore branch, thank you! Calling to remind me of my insurance renewal, taking the time to inform me of all of my options, and doing it all with warmth and care. It’s always a pleasure working with you.

In British Columbia, all drivers must purchase ICBC Basic Autoplan, the mandatory provincial auto insurance that provides core protections such as third?party liability, enhanced accident benefits, and basic vehicle damage coverage. Basic Autoplan includes a minimum of $200,000 in Third?Party Liability and provides extensive medical and recovery benefits through Enhanced Accident Benefits.
Drivers can also customize their protection with optional ICBC coverages or choose optional coverage from private insurers. Popular ICBC optional add?ons include Collision, Comprehensive, Extended Third?Party Liability (raising limits beyond the basic minimum), Loss of Use, and New Vehicle Protection products. These add?ons help cover risks not included in the Basic Autoplan—such as at?fault collision damage, theft, vandalism, windshield damage, rental vehicle needs, and higher liability requirements.
You can add optional coverage anytime through your local Autoplan broker, who will review your driving needs, vehicle usage, and budget to build the right protection for you. ICBC also allows optional coverage updates during online or phone renewals for eligible drivers.
The Lakeshore and Mission corridor experiences a mix of residential traffic, beach?area congestion, and seasonal tourism, especially along Lakeshore Road, Pandosy Village, Gyro Beach, and Lower Mission. These conditions can slightly influence risk factors such as minor collisions and parking?lot incidents. Your personal driving history still has the greatest impact on your premium.

Drivers in these neighbourhoods often choose:
Parking near Gyro Beach, Rotary Beach, and Pandosy Village increases exposure to minor scrapes, dents, windshield damage, and occasional theft or break?ins. Comprehensive coverage helps protect you from these issues.

Yes. Homes located along Lakeshore Road, Lower Mission, and nearby waterfront corridors may have unique insurance considerations due to increased visitor activity, proximity to Okanagan Lake, and seasonal population fluctuations. Lakeside and downtown Kelowna properties often require stronger protection against water damage and liability exposures related to recreational use.
Top risks in the Lakeshore/Mission area include:
Lakeshore/Mission properties may also require enhanced wildfire protection, sewer backup coverage, and overland flood protection depending on home elevation and proximity to water.
Wildfire season significantly affects the Okanagan, including Kelowna’s Lakeshore and Mission neighbourhoods. Insurers may temporarily restrict new policies or policy changes if an active fire is within a certain radius. Homeowners may face higher premiums, required fire?resistant construction features, or stricter underwriting. Binding insurance early, especially during July to September, is strongly recommended.
Homes close to the lake may face increased exposure to water?related claims, seasonal guest activity, and potential flooding from lake overflow or heavy rain episodes. Insurers often recommend water damage endorsements and reviewing higher deductibles associated with lake?adjacent risks.
