Safety Tips for Road Trips

Safety Tips for Road Trips

Your road trip should be worry free. For a smooth trip, make sure to check your car insurance coverage to protect your vehicle and travel insurance for added peace of mind.

1. Vehicle maintenance: Ensure your vehicle is in good condition before the trip. Check the tires, brakes, lights, and fluids.

2. Plan your route: Plan your route in advance and be aware of road conditions, construction, and weather forecasts.

3. Rest and breaks: Take regular breaks to rest and stretch, especially on long drives. Fatigue can impair your driving ability.

4. Seat belt use: Always wear your seat belt and ensure all passengers do the same.

5. Avoid distractions: Avoid using your phone or other distractions while driving. Keep your focus on the road.

Did you know?

If a friend is helping you do the driving on your road trip and gets into an accident, how does your car insurance cover this? In most cases, your car insurance policy would provide primary coverage if your friend was driving your car when the accident happened.

Even if your friend has her own insurance, your policy will still be first in line to pay the claim. Therefore, you might have to pay for any damage to the car itself, as well as pay the deductible on the claim.

6. Follow traffic laws: Obey speed limits, traffic signals, and other road signs. Be mindful of other drivers.

7. Emergency supplies: Carry emergency supplies such as a first aid kit, flashlight, water, and snacks.

8. Share your itinerary: Let someone know your travel plans, including your route and estimated arrival time.

9. Check your travel insurance: If you are renting a car or travelling outside of your home province give us a call to ensure you are properly covered.
