Western Direct Joins the Fight Against Women's Cancers With 3rd Annual Quote 4 Cures

CALGARY, AB – More than 93,600 Canadian women will be diagnosed with cancer this year.

Furthermore, nearly half of Canadian women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This is what motivated Western Direct Insurance to support the Canadian Cancer Society - helping to save the lives of mothers, daughters and best friends through the 2014 Quote 4 Cures campaign.
The community focused company is back for a third year with its Quote 4 Cures campaign, which raises money to fight women’s cancers. For every car or home insurance quote completed during the month of October – be it online, over the phone or in person through more than 45 Western Financial Group Alberta branches – Western Direct Insurance will donate $10 to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“We’re proud to once again join the Canadian Cancer Society in creating awareness about these diseases,” says Jeff Burke, President and CEO of Western Financial Group, which offers the Western Direct Insurance product. “Women’s cancers continue to have a dramatic impact across Canadian families. Through the Quote 4 Cures campaign, our hope is that many Canadians will join us in helping to protect all women in their fight against these cancers.”
Money raised through Quote 4 Cures will be designated to Society funded research into women’s cancers. Furthermore, the campaign will remind women to speak with their doctors about screening and early detection – two of the most important tools in the fight against cancer.
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Alberta/NWT Division is thrilled to once again partner with Western Direct Insurance in the fight for life.
“Breast, cervical, melanoma and colorectal cancers will account for more than 40 per cent of all female cancer diagnoses in Canada this year,” says Dan Holinda, Executive Director of the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division. “You can help us save the lives of our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends – it’s as easy as getting your Quote 4 Cures.”
Western Direct Insurance’s Quote 4 Cures coincides with Women’s Cancer Health Awareness Month, during which the Society focuses on raising awareness of screening for breast, cervical, melanoma and colorectal cancers. All of these cancers can be treated successfully when caught early.
Routine screening with the Pap test caught Samantha McDowell’s cervical cancer. She was just 24 when she was diagnosed in 2010; fortunately her cancer was caught early and was successfully treated with chemotherapy and surgery.
“No matter what, I now tell everyone to get checked,” McDowell says.
